There I said it. Look, Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s song is a bop. I think most of us can agree on that, even if some people might feel that it’s currently overplayed on the radio.
These two men came up with one of the catchiest beats I’ve heard in a while. But let’s not forget, it actually written and originally recorded IN SPANISH.
Now, I think that it’s great that they’ve done an English version because to be honest, I don’t typically listen to Spanish music and I may never have heard this song. Capitalizing on their excellent product by adding English lyrics opens up their listenership which translates into money. I’m all about it. Good on you Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee.
However, what I’m not down with is Justin Bieber slaughtering catchy SPANISH lyrics.
I’m not talking about the radio version where Bieber sings in Spanish. He did a fine job and sang with a very passable accent. BUT, when you make millions off of a song, I would hope, and even maybe expect (*gasp* oh no! is that asking to much from a person who’s literal job is to sing while also making tons money??) you to know the lyrics when you perform it. EVEN if the lyrics are not in your fluent language.
If you forget the lyrics, I can forgive you. Mistakes happen. However, I can’t forgive you for equating Hispanic and Latino culture to burritos and Doritos when you’re at a loss for words because you aren’t professional enough to literally do your job and remember lyrics. Bieber, you would’ve been much better off keeping your mouth shut.
Don’t believe that he actually did this? Here’s proof.
EXHIBIT A: Justin Bieber acting a fool, take 1
Like I said, I can forgive you for not knowing the lyrics to your own song. But sing lalala (which he did a few times). Or just dance while you’re waiting for a part you do know. Or don’t play the song you literally know no lyrics to except “despacito” and “poquito.” Literally do anything, but what happened in this video.
Exhibit B: Doritos, take 2
Again. Maybe don’t sing a song you literally knows two lyrics to, OR sing just the part the English part in the beginning.
People can argue that making the mistake once is due to blissful ignorance. But doing it more than that, especially after you were give crap for it, proves to me that he really doesn’t care.
Let’s stop making stupid people famous.
